Cost-neutral use of Securepoint NAC in the secondary school

Johannes Brahms High School in Pinneberg has been successfully using the Securepoint NAC (Network Access Controller) together with two Securepoint firewalls at both sites since July 2012. The special feature of this installation is the cost neutrality of the deployment for the school authorities.

Simple IT security for school digitalisation

The school decided that the use of internet-enabled devices is necessary and desirable from Year 5 onwards. However, their use should also guarantee the necessary protection for pupils and protection against possible liability claims from third parties arising from possible internet misuse. The NAC ticket system and the corresponding logging convinced the school representatives during a device demonstration. The Securepoint firewall protects the school's network from all common dangers.

The special feature of this installation is its financing: the use of this security solution is financed through the sale of usage tickets, which are purchased by pupils and teachers for the low price of just €4 per school year. The school itself does not have to bear any costs.

The highlights

  • Cost neutrality for school authorities
  • Complete network protection through UTM firewall
  • Internet usage via ticket system incl. logging
  • Simple import of user data

Special attention was also paid to the very simple operation. The approximately 1,300 user data could be easily imported as a CSV file via an import function, printed overnight and distributed on the first day of school.

Pupils and teachers can work on the school PCs or on their own devices without logging in and are only asked for their user data in the browser when using the Internet. The handling of all types of devices is self-explanatory, the need for intervention by the subject teachers Mr Goos and Mr Frankenstein is very rare.
